The Speed of Light
The speed of light is 3*10^8 m/s. If we were able to able to accelerate an object up to the speed of light then we would see that the object’s length in contracted as seen by someone on the outside. The object would retain its proper length as viewed by the someone traveling at the same speed as the object. An equation that links these two views is Lc=Lp(1-v^2/c^2)^(1/2) Where Lc is the contracted length and Lp is its proper length. The symbols v and c represent the velocity traveled by the object and the speed of light respectively. Another very similar equation that connects time with this idea of proper vs contraction. t=t’/(1-v^2/c^2)^(1/2). t is contracted time and t’ is the proper time.
Now if we were to plug in values for the variable of this equation we can see how long it takes for something moving at the speed of light to go somewhere. First we will exam a photon. A photon is a light particle therefore it travels at the speed of light. If we plug the speed of the photon into the time equation we get t=t’/(1-(3*10^8)/(3*10^8))^(1/2) Now that simplifies to t=t’/(1-1)^(1/2) this is an undefined equation. However if we multiply the equation around a little we get 0t=t’. The idea is that it takes the photon not time to travel. If however that photon were less than the speed of light there would be time of travel. If we plug the same values into the length equation then the lengths become 0 as well. Which means that travel distance is also 0. If it takes no time for this photon to travel no distance, yet it has gone from one eon to another then there is something to be said of the speed of light.
Christ is light. From him emanates all light. D&C 88: 6-9, 11-13
6 He that ascended up on high, as also he descended below all things, in that he comprehended all things, that he might be in all and through all things, the light of truth;
7 Which truth shineth. This is the light of Christ. As also he is in the sun, and the light of the sun, and the power thereof by which it was made.
8 As also he is in the moon, and is the light of the moon, and the power thereof by which it was made;
9 As also the light of the stars, and the power thereof by which they were made;
• • •
11 And the light which shineth, which giveth you light, is through him who enlighteneth your eyes, which is the same light that quickeneth your understandings;
12 Which light proceedeth forth from the presence of God to fill the immensity of space—
13 The light which is in all things, which giveth life to all things, which is the law by which all things are governed, even the power of God who sitteth upon his throne, who is in the bosom of eternity, who is in the midst of all things.
Therefore, if Christ is light and if it takes Light no time to travel any distance then He can travel from Kolob to Earth in no time.
Another physical matter to discuss is whether a photon is in one place or many at the same time. A photon emanates its energy (in the form of light) uniformly in all directions. This means that light seen in one spot can be seen at the exact same moment in another spot.
Christ will therefore be able to be seen in both Jerusalem and Zion (Missouri) at the same moment and time even though those two spots cannot see each other.
