And the bandages are off!!!

This is day #2 with no bandages. I just woke up and you can still see the bandage markings. I think I tried to sleep on my side last night because every pillow I was using  to prop my leg up was somewhere in the TV room when I woke up this morning

Most Wonderful Husband

DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE A WEAK STOMACH
I have been trying to decide whether to share this since it happened. I'm just going to have to spit it out. Smitty and i worked together on thursday night this week, which is a rare occasion. One of the night therapists was late and the other therapist is pretty new so I told him I could stay- he told me to go so not to ruin my weekend but i told him I was fine to stay. 20 minutes later EMS sends in a call for a three year old, skull fracture, not breathing and no heart beat. We run down the ER to get ready. We were not prepared for what happened. Blood everywhere, coming out his ears, mouth, vommitting blood, his skull was showing so blood was coming out of his head. I took over the breathing & sent the ther therapist to run errands for me. ( he has a son that age and I did not want him in there to much) I was breathing for the child when smitty took over on CPR. We where working together for the next 20-30 minutes when they pronounced him dead. Before the family came in Smitty and I helped some of the nurses try to clean the blood from his face before the family came in. we where all covered in blood and crying over this little boy. Smitty and i went into another room to clean the blood off and make sure we were ok before he had to go to help another patient( that was the beginning of smitty's shift, he wasn't off until 6am). I went to check on the other therapist who was crying in the men's room. When I woke up the next morning there where flowers laying next to me. Smitty always wants to get me flowers but never remembers so when the ER had time to cope with what happened; hours after, he decided to get me flowers. We stayed up and talked about this little kid's tragic death for a while before he was able to sleep. So then today, Sunday, Smitty was last minute, asked to give the elder's quorum lesson- dealing with death, mostly with the death of a child. He told me he cried a lot during the lesson and he shared the story of what happened to the three year old we took care of. This has been really hard. this was Smitty's first experience with this and my third. We have had a long weekend talking about it but I think that lesson really helped Smitty out becasue he never had time to take in what happened since there was an ER full of people who need help

HAWKES FAMILY REUINION

Even though my Grandpa's 80th and my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary isn't until December. the whole family is only able to get together in the summer, every ten years (its as weird as is sounds) We had the Hawkes Olympic games which began with opening ceremonies and my grandpa running in the torch (picture to follow) The Olympic games included- steeple chase (three legged race with water jumping), volleyball toss, water balloon toss, two days of volleyball, pole vaulting (straw w/ cotton ball), hammer throw (wiffle ball toss) and shot put (picture to follow) and lady bug bean bag toss. Smitty was invited into the family by the rest of the family he had never met and will never see again and he passed!
